Why do most ready-made curtains come in only 86" length? I hardly know anyone that has windows this size. Not only that, but why are curtains so expensive? I'll let you in on a little secret I've been doing in my house lately…<br />
<br />
The tablecloth curtains. This is gonna make you say, "Why didn't I think of that?" The idea hit me standing in the aisle of Target a few months back when I saw some awesome prints on clearance in, get this, 60" x 104" lengths! I was so excited and the best part was that they were marked down to around $13 a piece!!! You can't even buy 104" of fabric at the fabric store for this price! The fabric is a nice heavy weight too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQGVrV73kwHpuBOSF-uJ6inVQ_bOeiOSW3FufqQCj-OLeGhU8mwC6KBhPBr1Y3awxLsx2smZeH6_NXqjAzUXMwgap6Viy5ghrlVyNZlpWhF0ygGba6hfgpmMIDqlnBbN2X9VyPVxZc8A8/s1600/IMG_4032.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQGVrV73kwHpuBOSF-uJ6inVQ_bOeiOSW3FufqQCj-OLeGhU8mwC6KBhPBr1Y3awxLsx2smZeH6_NXqjAzUXMwgap6Viy5ghrlVyNZlpWhF0ygGba6hfgpmMIDqlnBbN2X9VyPVxZc8A8/s1600/IMG_4032.jpg" height="640" width="425" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
You can still purchase them <a href="http://www.target.com/p/threshold-trellis-rectangle-tablecloth/-/A-14898772#prodSlot=_1_21" target="_blank">here</a> but they aren't on sale right now, still for $18.99 a piece, its still a great deal. They're ready to hang and since I don't sew, this is right up my alley! I just installed my curtain rod and bought matching ring clips <a href="http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Curtain-Hardware/6425/subcat.html?gclid=CPKdy-Ga3cMCFYovgQodsb8AEg&featuredproduct=6641084&featuredoption=8997042&cid=202290&kid=9553000357392&track=pspla&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=14204451-000-000&ef_id=UecoIwAAALh@TegH:20150212200742:s" style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px;" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
I clipped the back of each panel to make them have sort of a pinch pleat look at the tops…..and voila! So simple and it's so much more finished looking in this room now.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNhi_s-9jI-cdRDTbVeiEx6Y80d9SfuJUmM7XJrOxHgoyIrKkuUeCjSvrhyphenhyphenA2rHR67YsRmuwHLi-fbSxGk60MPrW6KTRS-qQtdf-WVu6Hh6yuGJDDzcVwVhq3jpBDztp5FXQ1tbcbxGas/s1600/IMG_4033.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNhi_s-9jI-cdRDTbVeiEx6Y80d9SfuJUmM7XJrOxHgoyIrKkuUeCjSvrhyphenhyphenA2rHR67YsRmuwHLi-fbSxGk60MPrW6KTRS-qQtdf-WVu6Hh6yuGJDDzcVwVhq3jpBDztp5FXQ1tbcbxGas/s1600/IMG_4033.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The only issue I've run into so far is that my 19-month old likes to play peek-a-boo and tugs them down, hence the puddling at the bottom. But for $26 total, I'll just get on the ladder and adjust every now and then.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I just completed doing the same thing with <a href="http://www.target.com/p/threshold-floral-rectangle-tablecloth/-/A-14898775#prodSlot=_1_18" target="_blank">this</a> print in my great room and kitchen nook. I'll take pictures and post these as well soon. Anyone else out there doing this with tablecloths? I'd love to get some more inspiration!</div>

I’ve been busy helping clients transform their homes and most of the time its all from the computer.</p> <p>This month I’ve been whittling away the time with a master bedroom transformation, a local retail spa, and a dining room.</p> <p>Here is a sneak peek at a master bedroom transformation I’m helping a client with at the moment. </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-rh6CBbBGbAU/UXV69T27EtI/AAAAAAAACo8/Xu6BCv7sHRU/s1600-h/Ryan%252520Master%252520Inspiration%252520Board%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img title="Ryan Master Inspiration Board" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="Ryan Master Inspiration Board" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-dHkha3eMM_o/UXV69zhwvgI/AAAAAAAACpE/IzM-fnpkn2Y/Ryan%252520Master%252520Inspiration%252520Board_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="470" height="612"></a></p> <p>After receiving pictures of the space and working through email to get a clear understanding of your taste, I’ll put together a board like the one above. The best part is that I’ll attach a list where you can find everything (most of which can be ordered online).</p> <p>The best satisfaction for me is seeing your rooms once everything is ordered and in place. </p> <p>Remember this one? This was a truly satisfying makeover to see come together! So when I stumbled across the <a href="http://www.ashtonwoods.com" target="_blank">Ashton Woods</a> model in Highland Ridge here in Frisco, I just had to blog about it.</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-86-tTTz0rwo/UVrzM7i-HTI/AAAAAAAACkk/1pudwVyQlQM/s1600-h/0-full%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="0-full" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="0-full" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-zcesoQWmweI/UVrzNYJyK4I/AAAAAAAACks/d9cj9fwoPZs/0-full_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="533" height="365"></a></p> <p>(All photos courtesy of <a href="http://www.ashtonwoods.com" target="_blank">Ashton Woods</a>)</p> <p>What struck me in this particular model was the bold mix of navy blues and graphic patterns throughout. I love blue and its nice to see it used in darker shades since the light blues are so expected in design these days.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-vUdz9hbpWxE/UVrzOEr7DpI/AAAAAAAACk0/M6fnEv1twRI/s1600-h/8-full%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="8-full" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="8-full" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-kBEmvmITI_g/UVrzO97YI7I/AAAAAAAACk8/cCgQv6165Eo/8-full_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="539" height="370"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-3vs-2tAjP7U/UVrzPYOE0kI/AAAAAAAAClE/3zaneOkzf3w/s1600-h/6-full%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="6-full" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="6-full" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-QDb7Ff7UX2c/UVrzPxX9RXI/AAAAAAAAClM/OZ0huNDt75w/6-full_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="546" height="374"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-95x4s6ZJDDE/UVrzQi37YyI/AAAAAAAAClU/FchAGYlgVTg/s1600-h/19-full%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img title="19-full" style="border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px" border="0" alt="19-full" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-jJPj4g_fkro/UVrzQ8xfq9I/AAAAAAAAClc/x6r_c5-HQ-w/19-full_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="556" height="381"></a></p> <p>I’m really into the almost denim like color of the sofas. With a new home under construction and a baby boy on the way, its been chaotic to say the least.</font></p> <p><font size="3">With the sheetrock up and the gender revealed…its time to start planning a nursery.</font></p> <p><font size="3">As if I don’t have enough going on lately…I’ve decided to take on a little project. The glider. Of course I could easily purchase a beautifully upholstered glider for a mere $1,300.00 at Pottery Barn.</font> </p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-2PX0tbOcNWA/UUdaJSokQyI/AAAAAAAACik/pEUcUn0ukac/s1600-h/img72t%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="img72t" border="0" alt="img72t" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-NPlVLmKqlbQ/UUdaJ_EZYOI/AAAAAAAACis/CW0lt3cqxgM/img72t_thumb%25255B4%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="346" height="315"></a></p> <p>Courtesy of <a href="http://www.potterybarnkids.com" target="_blank">Pottery Barn Kids</a></p> <p><font size="3">But what fun would that be? And it definitely wouldn’t fit the Urban Farmhouse spirit! </font></p> <p><font size="3">So here’s the game plan….I have a perfectly cozy upholstered chair that I’m thinking about turning into a glider. I did a little research, and by golly, it doesn’t seem that difficult! Sorry its been awhile since I last posted. Truth is, I’ve been enjoying my summer with my little man before he goes off to kindergarten in the fall. I’ve really slowed down my work schedule for the next 2 months to soak up these precious days.</font></p> <p><font size="3" face="Arial">Don’t worry though…once school starts, its <em>gangbusters</em> again. In the meantime, thought I’d share another project I’ve had in the works for some time now.</font></p> <p><font size="3" face="Arial">My amazingly talented hairstylist, Kelli, just opened her own salon suite this spring. She has been doing hair since she was a teenager and it was a dream come true to finally branch out on her own. (Check out her web site </font><a href="http://www.kelliamissalon.com" target="_blank"><font size="3" face="Arial">here</font></a><font size="3" face="Arial">) Sooo, I was totally thrilled and honored when she asked <em>moi</em> to design it for her!</font></p> <p><font size="3" face="Arial">Since the space was just being built, we had a blank canvas to work with. I’ve been searching for a faux bamboo chair for my desk for years and still haven’t come across a vintage one at a reasonable price.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-dF0Y7IFh2mM/T7MPZxcL2SI/AAAAAAAACWQ/-_x4DKREhlg/s1600-h/83812fde77c7%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="83812fde77c7" border="0" alt="83812fde77c7" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-SVvGMslVuyI/T7MPaLC3OcI/AAAAAAAACWY/WhvrV_sKSlQ/83812fde77c7_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="301" height="379"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-q0FpdvipOiU/T7MPajgSofI/AAAAAAAACWg/JBfjRYMtYgs/s1600-h/viadecorpad2%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="viadecorpad2" border="0" alt="viadecorpad2" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-A8NxV7BonUk/T7MPbLrAPgI/AAAAAAAACWo/uycZxf4HCC4/viadecorpad2_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="297" height="394"></a></p> <p>via Décor Pad</p> <p>I love these glass top bamboo nesting tables!</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-qODoNOiPZes/T7MPcvi5P8I/AAAAAAAACWw/3tY9hy5-Ies/s1600-h/viadecorpad%25255B3%25255D.png"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="viadecorpad" border="0" alt="viadecorpad" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-i6zc4dToYTw/T7MPeCRkWiI/AAAAAAAACW4/YsQwT6_-96A/viadecorpad_thumb%25255B1%25255D.png?imgmax=800" width="367" height="424"></a></p> <p>via Décor Pad</p> <p>Or better yet, mirrored round top!</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-DfZ2ptQbSRY/T7MPekLZm3I/AAAAAAAACXA/Y5kbOOra3OM/s1600-h/9964b51e4be3cda0345e7007f584e2d6%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="9964b51e4be3cda0345e7007f584e2d6" border="0" alt="9964b51e4be3cda0345e7007f584e2d6" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-0j1eEXCctXA/T7MPfPH6FaI/AAAAAAAACXI/y2uN8sdZOI8/9964b51e4be3cda0345e7007f584e2d6_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="143" height="244"></a></p> <p>via Madison Ave Gifts</p> <p>After years of searching, I did manage to find a faux bamboo wooden chair while out thrifting. <span style="font-size: small;">Sorry I’m just now getting back to blogging. It’s been a rough couple of weeks for me personally with the passing of my grandfather, almost a year after my father passed. I also found out that I have some medical issues going on that I’m sad to say will have to slow my work schedule down for the time being. Nothing too serious thankfully, but with that said, its been nice to take it easy and relax more often. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">I get so excited about design work that I tend to ignore what my body’s trying to tell me. So, with the time off from work projects, I’ve been able to put a little energy into my own home for a little updating.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">We’ve been in our house for over 7 years now, and things have definitely gotten a little outdated. I guess I took this picture around Easter a couple of years back judging from the cluttered mantel!</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">Before</span><br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-s0PdV2sbI3A/T6l1V7PtP-I/AAAAAAAACTY/iWLuGq4nbu0/s1600-h/025-001%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><span style="font-size: small;"><img alt="025-001" border="0" height="282" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-peY3gMf2DTo/T6l1Yk_MpQI/AAAAAAAACTg/NdKAdoKu0eM/025-001_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="025-001" width="492" /></span></a><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">The room is no where near completion, but I have made some headway on a few accent pieces. First off, remember this little castaway I found while out thrifting?</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">Before</span><br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-hJtsv0u2jSg/T6l1ZG-Y6qI/AAAAAAAACTo/0o5Ldwk7dWc/s1600-h/003%25255B9%25255D.jpg"><span style="font-size: small;"><img alt="003" border="0" height="336" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-fxvdPiOVv6Q/T6l1Zlj717I/AAAAAAAACTs/wRfjlb-ts1Y/003_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="003" width="221" /></span></a><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">After</span><br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Tyr3Rihxndc/T6l1aOhr0VI/AAAAAAAACT4/EKPNtWIfsX8/s1600-h/008%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span style="font-size: small;"><img alt="008" border="0" height="506" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-B3bjDDjnBa4/T6l1ajfJtXI/AAAAAAAACUA/1SNae5QuCHA/008_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="008" width="332" /></span></a><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">She is definitely brought back to life in a fun ikat-style gray linen fabric.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-NKroa4jl8JQ/T6l1bN-JQ6I/AAAAAAAACUE/HxuImrnzAyM/s1600-h/003%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="003" border="0" height="476" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-oPWJyb1mmFc/T6l1btp3GpI/AAAAAAAACUQ/u-QiEQaSmfM/003_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="003" width="326" /></a></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">The area rug is actually an indoor/outdoor rug that I snagged for a steal...$120 at Homegoods! I love that it’s a rich navy blue instead of black.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">This cigarette table is a reproduction of the classic Maison Jansen design.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-GxGzxsK6oFA/T6l1cUpNV0I/AAAAAAAACUY/6PampwAEoaE/s1600-h/009%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="009" border="0" height="338" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-0vSIItGUEps/T6l1c91i2BI/AAAAAAAACUg/pRn_owIDBMQ/009_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="009" width="222" /></a></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">My newest thrift score is this Asian-inspired console table. It was originally in a beat-up light golden oak stain with a wooden carved top. I popped out the carving and had mirrored glass cut after refinishing it in Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy. A large ottoman that I added caster wheels to, rolls out when more seating is necessary.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-CrglMPtySbQ/T6l1dpYKndI/AAAAAAAACUo/6wWjw5ckn18/s1600-h/001a%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="001a" border="0" height="448" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/--g8dSDhEQDw/T6l1eKGLLMI/AAAAAAAACUw/nKafRdBlqwI/001a_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="001a" width="476" /></a></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">The glass coffee table was another thrift find for $10! It was brass but after a refinish job, it looks much more modern.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br /></span><br />

<span style="font-size: small;">Virtually all of my accessories are also, yep, you guessed it, thrift store finds for dirt cheap. My son loves this little wooden elephant that came as a set of two. He may be moving to his room as a bookend eventually.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: small;">This silver swan bowl is all tarnished but I’m starting to like the look of it this way. I’m thinking it’ll be a great vase for bright watermelon colored peonies or carnations.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: small;">It’s definitely not finished, but I do feel like my living room is much more interesting and inviting now. I’ll try to post more pictures as I add more layers to it.</span><br />

It really is quite a dramatic difference. She was kind enough to let me come in and tear apart her room over the course of a few weekends.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br />

<span style="font-size: small;">Take a peek for yourself…</span><br />

<span style="font-size: small;">The only thing missing is of course the jewelry for the room…a chandelier that will replace the ceiling fan. With a little <em>photoshop magic</em>…<em><strong>voila</strong></em>.</span><br />

</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;">You can see in the mood board of the room below, how just repositioning furniture can make a <em>HUGE IMPACT</em>! It really opens up the space this way.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span><br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-9eFD30nVjeE/T4sNVq3Ui2I/AAAAAAAACO4/GABeMGr9hjg/s1600-h/kUECHENMEISTERS%252520dESIGN%252520bOARD1%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img alt="kUECHENMEISTERS dESIGN bOARD1" border="0" height="316" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-XllJFBxT3N4/T4sNWnJXoMI/AAAAAAAACPA/5cf4Xl5JnTQ/kUECHENMEISTERS%252520dESIGN%252520bOARD1_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="kUECHENMEISTERS dESIGN bOARD1" width="496" /></a><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: small;">By mixing old and new pieces, we were able to achieve a room with character and balance. This industrial table made out of pipe legs from an old factory in New York City was the first piece purchased for the room at a flea market. It was really our muse for the entire design concept.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: small;">I am <em>SO</em> envious of that fireplace! Can you imagine on a rainy day, curling up in bed next to that thing? I may move in…</span><br />

<span style="font-size: small;">Incorporating a gallery wall solved the challenge of how what to do with the massive wall opposite the bed. The added bonus is that it brings personality to their space.</span><br />

(WOW, that could be taken out of context.) </strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><strong><br />
</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><strong>Let’s try that again…what I’m trying to say is, that just because I’m known for refinishing furniture, doesn’t mean that’s ALL I’m doing these days at Urban Farmhouse.</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><strong><br />
</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><strong>Lately my business has taken a shift and I’ve started creating rooms around my furniture for clients. </strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><strong><br />
</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><strong>Take Kerri and Tim Rovi for example. They scored a great deal on this solid wood 65” round dining table at a local thrift. </strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><strong><br />
</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><strong><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-LGXeJkq-vwE/T17R5QAWO9I/AAAAAAAACEI/LAE4q4eWxW4/s1600-h/photo%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="photo" border="0" height="370" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-8ptTl7EgRxo/T17R5oW8uoI/AAAAAAAACEQ/tJnsChekhT8/photo_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="photo" width="273" /></a></strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><strong>They knew they wanted me to refinish it, but after learning a little more about their style at a design consultation at their new home, I came up with a custom plan for the couple. </strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><strong><br />
</strong></span><br />
<strong><span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;">While on the tour of their house, I spotted this amazing bouquet on display in the corner of their guestroom. Isn’t it great? Its made out of vintage brooches and was Kerri’s bridal bouquet. It sparked the inspiration for my design boards.</span></strong><br />
<strong><span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><br />
</span></strong><br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-9aKcoiwLJDY/T17R6T3AphI/AAAAAAAACEY/vH6qfXeYBkA/s1600-h/image006%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img alt="image006" border="0" height="183" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-pQSvS185gM4/T17R6yv2ULI/AAAAAAAACEg/7-UKJdwwkTg/image006_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="image006" width="256" /></a> <a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-k_UVeYCZiRY/T17R7ZCiNJI/AAAAAAAACEo/UXLamK8404g/s1600-h/image005%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img alt="image005" border="0" height="154" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-x5S1zXRF05E/T17R74BwABI/AAAAAAAACEw/tHz_xLZpibc/image005_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="image005" width="224" /></a><br />
<br />
<strong><span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;">I knew that blue had to be incorporated into the design after seeing it emerge throughout their home in just about every room. Kerri, like me, tends to lean towards blending vintage with modern elements and likes a calming color palette. </span></strong><br />
<strong><span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><br />
</span></strong><br />
<strong><span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;">The dining room needed to be sophisticated and a little bit glamorous but in keeping with a young and somewhat relaxed feel.</span></strong><br />
<strong><span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><br />
</span></strong><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><strong><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-T4gtZ_ojuSw/T17R8SmWdyI/AAAAAAAACE4/jZ5lq-T_ot8/s1600-h/felderhoffdiningroom1-1%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="felderhoffdiningroom1-1" border="0" height="362" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-zEI5Iy_Xmo0/T17R84OvLXI/AAAAAAAACFA/dKo-6KA8IsA/felderhoffdiningroom1-1_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="felderhoffdiningroom1-1" width="500" /></a></strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><strong>The fun part about the plan I come up with for my clients, is that it usually centers around furniture pieces I go out searching for. Then the transformation begins! The result is a one-of-a-kind, budget-friendly room that was designed especially for you.</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><strong><br />
</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><strong>In the case of the Rovi’s, I had so much fun that I came up with three similar boards for them to choose from.</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><strong><br />
</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><strong><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-TAnD1xuF0SE/T17R9WSt-xI/AAAAAAAACFI/m1uvZZ17k9Y/s1600-h/felderhoffdining2-1%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="felderhoffdining2-1" border="0" height="373" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-IK0QKIWSa3M/T17R9sSOY_I/AAAAAAAACFQ/AJ3lbysQXz8/felderhoffdining2-1_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="felderhoffdining2-1" width="516" /></a></strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><strong>All three boards centered around their table and the need for a china hutch to display some special heirloom pieces.</strong></span><br />

<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><strong>I’m happy to report that they loved the boards, saying:</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;"><strong><br />
</strong></span><br />
<strong><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><em>“These are AMAZING! We’re still mulling over 1 and 2, can’t decide if we like the white hutch or the white table but I’m leaning towards two because I LOVE that chandelier with the white table. Thank you so much for all of your hard work on this, you’ve hit it on the nail!”</em></span></strong> <br />
<strong><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><em><br />
</em></span></strong><br />
<strong><span style="font-family: 'AmerType Md BT'; font-size: small;">After some deliberation they have decided to go with Board #1. </span></strong><br />

Well it applies to me! How else would anyone end up junkin’ for beat up furniture at garage sales or thrifts? </strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong>I often say that design wouldn’t be a challenge without a budget. </strong></span><span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong>What fun would it be to walk into a high end store and say “I’ll take it!” without even so much as glancing at the price tag? (Okay, let’s be honest, it would be fun.) </strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong>But I don’t think it would be nearly as interesting or satisfying to me if there wasn’t a bit of a challenge in it.</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong>As I look over my portfolio and the learning curve since I started doing this out of my garage in 2009, I have to say…I really am proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish with cast-away furniture and accessories. </strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong>It makes me realize that design is less about a number and more about how to maneuver around road blocks and see the potential in everyday objects.</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong>I had someone tell me the other day that Urban Farmhouse is “trending” with regard to some of the pieces I’ve done. That really struck a cord with me and reassured me that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be with my career choice.</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong>With that said, let me show you what I’ve been up to this weekend…</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong>My good friend and decorator, Gamze Andrews, has such a beautiful home that it was an extra bonus to be able to photograph them there. (This also made me realize how my paint-infested garage does NOT do my pieces justice for that wow factor!)</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong>But what good would these beautiful pictures do without a shocking “Before” image? It adds to the drama, right?</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong>Remember these guys? Yes, they were hanging around my garage for quite some time until I could figure out what direction to go with for her house. I just knew they had star potential deep down!</strong></span><br />

That pretty much sums up my own house and the lack of decorating I’ve been able to do while working on other people’s homes.</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong><br />
</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong>But I finally decided to do a long overdue mini makeover one room at a time, starting with my master bedroom. I didn’t really have a lot of room in the budget, which is always challenging when trying to makeover a room! But for $150 and 24 hours, I think I did pretty well!</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong><br />
</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-NFUjQIcNcUs/TziY2p5yHzI/AAAAAAAAB48/7_vrMfY0wTY/s1600-h/036-2%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="036-2" border="0" height="474" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-OrV2inZLZW4/TziY20Oj0EI/AAAAAAAAB5E/NhQBzBScCeo/036-2_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="036-2" width="357" /></a></strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong>After six years in our house, we still had the builder white (or cream) walls. We wanted to take the room from Country Cottage to Urban Sophistication. </strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong><br />
</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-XRtLLsfHOXM/TziY3TuMv4I/AAAAAAAAB5M/L25gzd2hDJ0/s1600-h/006-1%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img alt="006-1" border="0" height="410" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-ISpN_kp1bqg/TziY35PJyVI/AAAAAAAAB5U/TDqd0KUW3l8/006-1_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="006-1" width="542" /></a></strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong>I think the biggest impact in the room was paint. I chose a subtle gray from Benjamin Moore called Gray Huskie that I had color matched at Lowe’s. Keep in mind that I didn’t replace any of my original furniture. The paint really helps the furniture stand out.</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong><br />
</strong></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong>I saved a lot of money by painting myself. It really wasn’t that bad…took me about 5 hours from start to finish. The biggest trick to painting a room is to do all of the brush work first and then do the rolling.</strong></span><br />

<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Bradley Hand ITC'; font-size: medium;"><strong>We mounted our flat screen on the wall before the makeover but that was actually a pretty easy project as well. We found our mounting kit online which saved us over half the cost of buying in the store.</strong></span><br />
